Myki ticket machines are found inside the waiting room and on the platforms. This machine is able to recharge myki cards with money and sell new cards, and it accepts notes and coins.

History

Caulfield station was opened on Wednesday, 7 May 1879.[8] The current station was built from 1913 to 1914. The new station provides new and improved facilities for a growing station. The station is the same since 1914. Only upgrades are done once in a while.

Disaster

On 26 May 1926, the 6:02 pm train going to Oakleigh crashed into the back of a not-moving train to Carrum. The disaster was at Platform 4 in the station. Three people died. 170 people were hurt.[9][10]

Metro Tunnel

Before the Metro Tunnel project was completed, Caulfield station saw big upgrades to the station and platforms.[11] The upgrades made Caulfield station into an interchange station. However, news outlets want more upgrades to the station, like setting up lifts and building a new concourse to reduce big crowds.[12]

Platforms

The station has four platforms. Two platforms make an island platform in the middle of the station. Platforms 1 and 4 have large red brick buildings. Platforms 2 and 3 (the island platforms) contain a bigger red brick building which has a waiting room and a ticket office.

Outbound V/Line (country trains) services leave from Platform 4. Country trains from beyond Pakenham drop off people on Platform 3.

A subway is located underneath the station. This allows people to get from the side platforms (1 and 4) to the island platform. It also has a take away food shop.
