Pakenham is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is in the suburb of Pakenham, on the Pakenham railway line. It is in myki Zone 2. It is almost the end of the Pakenham line, as well as the final city stop for regional trains going to Traralgon and Bairnsdale. The station contains 2 platforms.
History
Pakenham station opened when the line from Bunyip station was built farther to Oakleigh station. The station is named after Sir Edward Pakenham. He was a major general that served in the 19th century Peninsular War.[4]
Pakenham station was upgraded to a premium station in 1997.[5] Between 2001 and 2024, Pakenham was the end of the electrified train network. Past this, only diesel V/Line trains can pass.
As part of the Level Crossing Removal Project, three level crossings were pulled down. On the same night, the old Pakenham station was pulled down as well. The new and current Pakenham station opened on 3 June 2024.[6][7][8][9][10]
