History

Pembertion was originally occupied by the Bibbulmun people who knew the area as Wandergarup, which in their language it means 'plenty of water'.[1]
Pemberton was first settled in the early 1900s as a timber town. The area had large karri trees, which were used for building and export. A sawmill was built in 1913, and the town grew around it. Pemberton was also connected by railway, which helped with transporting timber.
The town later became known for tourism and farming after the timber industry slowed down.
