The 2021–22 UEFA Youth League was the eighth season of the UEFA Youth League, a European youth club football competition organised by UEFA. This competition featured the youth teams of the clubs that qualified for the Champions League group stage in the same season. Additionally the 32 youth champions of the strongest nations of the UEFA played in this competition.

Squads

The squads could contain up to 40 players. Five of these could be born between 1 January and 31 December 2002. The other 35 players could be born on 1 January 2003 or later.Only three older players could be nominated for a match. [2]

Mode

The 32 teams were drawn into eight groups of four. The group compositions was the same as in the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League group stage. The teams played against each other home-and-away. The group winners went to the round of 16. The runners-up played a play off versus the winners of the Championship path. The championship path was played in 2 rounds with two legs.

If two or more teams have the same points, the following criteria are used, in the order given:

  • Points in head-to-head matches among the tied teams;
  • Goal difference in head-to-head matches among the tied teams;
  • Goals scored in head-to-head matches among the tied teams;
  • Goal difference in all group matches;
  • Goals scored in all group matches;
  • Away goals scored in all group matches;
  • Wins in all group matches;
  • Away wins in all group matches;
  • Disciplinary points (direct red card = 3 points; double yellow card = 3 points; single yellow card = 1 point);
  • Drawing of lots
