Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92, is a composition written in 1811 and 1812. Beethoven lived in Teplice while he wrote the piece. Beethoven dedicated the symphony to Count Moritz von Fries.[1]

The work was first played in Vienna on 8 December 1813. Beethoven conducted the piece.[2]

Instrumentation

The symphony is written for:

Woodwinds:
2 Flutes
2 Oboes
2 Clarinets in A
2 Bassoons

Brass:

2 Horns in A
2 Trumpets in D

In the second and third movement, the horns are in E and D. The work does not have a part for the Contrabassoon, but Beethoven used two of them when the symphony was first played.[1]

Form

There are four parts, also called movements:[3]

  1. Poco sostenuto – Vivace (A major)
  2. Allegretto (A minor)
  3. Presto – Assai meno presto (trio) (F major, Trio in D major)
  4. Allegro con brio (A major)

It takes around 36 minutes to play the work.[4]
