Otozuka Kofun, a square kofun

Square Kofun (方墳, Hōfun) are a kind of Kofun that has only a square mound. They are usually smaller than the kofun shapes.[1] [2]

Tsude Hiroshi argues that there is a hierarchy of Zenpō-kōen-fun > Zenpō-kōhō-fun > Round Kofun > Square Kofun that he calls the Kofun system.[2]
