Templeborough

Templeborough is an industrial and commercial area of Rotherham in South Yorkshire, England. It is about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the Meadowhall shopping centre and close to the River Don.[1]

Templeborough is known for its steelmaking history. For most of the 20th century, the area was home to large steelworks. The site later became part of the Magna Science Adventure Centre, which opened in 2001.[2]

History

The Templeborough steelworks were once some of the largest electric-arc furnaces in the world. The works played an important part in steel production during the 1900s.[3]

After the steelworks closed, the area was redeveloped. Parts of the old buildings were reused to create Magna, a science and visitor attraction that teaches about steelmaking and the natural elements.

Today

Templeborough now has a mix of businesses, hotels and leisure sites. It is one of the main commercial areas in Rotherham. The A6178 road runs through Templeborough, connecting Rotherham with Sheffield.
