Magna Science Adventure Centre is a science and visitor centre in Templeborough, Rotherham. It is inside a former steelworks building and opened in 2001.[1] The building was once part of the large steel industry in the area.
Exhibits
Magna has four main pavilions: Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Visitors can learn about these ideas through hands-on science exhibits.[2] The centre has over one hundred interactive displays.
One of the main shows at Magna is called "The Big Melt". It uses light and sound to show how steel was made in the old furnace.[3]
History
The building that Magna uses was once a steelworks at Templeborough. It was later changed into a visitor attraction to help keep the area’s industrial history alive.[4] Magna opened in April 2001.
Outdoor areas
Outside the main building, Magna has large play areas. These include a water play zone and an adventure playground for children.[5]
Location
Magna is next to the A6178 road. It is close to the Meadowhall shopping centre. There is parking for visitors, and buses stop near the entrance.[6]
