The Battle of Poljana, was a battle of the Yugoslav front of World War II that took place near the settlement of Poljana in Slovenia from May 14-15 1945. the battle was fought between the Yugoslav People's Army (army of the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia), and a column of retreating Axis forces and civilians (German, Croatian, and others) trying to reach Allied-occupied Austria to surrender to the British forces in the south of the country. fighting continued into the morning of May 15th when British tanks arrived to the battle field and the column surrendered. but the British said they could not surrender to them, instead, they had to surrender the Yugoslavs. and the British also gave the Yugoslavs other axis prisoners from the Yugoslav front that surrendered to them. after the surrenders, the Yugoslavs began to massacre their POW's from the battle known as the Bleiburg repatriations.
