Jar of Flies is the third extended play (EP) by Alice in Chains. Alice in Chains is an American rock band. Columbia Records released the EP on January 25, 1994. It is the first EP to be number one on the Billboard 200 music chart.[4] The band wrote and made the EP in one week.

Many music critics liked the EP. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) gave it a quadruple platinum certification. This is because the band has sold over 4 million copies of the EP.[5] Jar of Flies was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 1995.[6][7]

Recording

In 1993, Alice in Chains had a concert tour for Dirt. During the tour, they fired bass guitar player Mike Starr.[8] Mike Inez joined the band to play the bass guitar. After playing music at Lollapalooza, the band went home to Seattle. They did not pay rent on their house in Seattle, so they could not live there. They moved into London Bridge Studio in Seattle.[9]

The band started making music for the EP on September 7, 1993. On some days, they worked for 14–18 hours.[1] They finished making the music in seven days. Toby Wright mixed the album from September 17 to September 22.[1]
