Halocarbon

A halocarbon is an organic compound that has halogen atoms: usually fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine. Organoastatine compounds are only rarely made They are also called organohalides.

In organic chemistry, the letter X is often used in a chemical formula to mean "any halogen". The most general formula for a halocarbon is RX: any organic group R and any halogen X.
