WSG Radenthein is an Austrian football club from the Carinthian town of Radenthein. They play in the Carinthian Unterliga West (5th tier). The club colours are yellow and green.
History
WSG Radenthein was founded in 1951 as the company sports club of the Austro American Magnesit Company. They were the second football club in Radenthein alongside ATUS Radenthein. In its first season the club, as Carinthian runners-up, was promoted to the second-tier Tauernliga along with SK Austria Klagenfurt. In 1954, WSG Radenthein, as Tauern champions, participated in the promotion playoffs to the A-League for the first time. They were defeated by SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz. In 1956, 1957, 1958, and 1959, the Carinthian club again failed to gain promotion in the playoffs, this time as Tauern champions.
In the 1959/60 season, the Regionalliga Mitte was introduced for Carinthia, Styria and Upper Austria as a new second division. There was a direct right of promotion for the winner. In the 1966-67 season Radenthein was promoted to the Nationalliga (1st tier). They were relegated immediately. In the 1969-70 season, Radenthein were promoted back to the National League as Regional League champions ahead of WSV Fohnsdorf. But with 15 points out of 30 matches they were relegated again.
Two years later, the club won the 1972/73 Regional League title and was promoted to the Austrian top flight. This third promotion marked the sudden end of WSG Radenthein. The club was relocated to Villach. It became the new joint team WSG/Villacher SV. From 1975 onwards, Radenthein was dropped from the club's name.
The club stopped operations on 7 November 1975. They started a new beginning in the Carinthian lower leagues in 1976. There they are still playing.
