The Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism[a] (SICSA) is a research center founded in 1982, devoted to the study of antisemitism with "an independent, non-political and critical approach". It is associated with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.[1]
History
The center was founded by late Israeli historian and Holocaust survivor Prof. Yehuda Bauer (1926–2024),[3] later led by late historian Prof. Robert Wistrich (1945–2015) between 2002 and 2015.[1][4] The center is now led by Profs. Manuela Consonni[b] and Alexander Yakobson.[c][6]
Goals
The center aims to train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in antisemitism studies in order to build a quality academic platform for comparative studies between antisemitism[d] and other forms of discrimination.[1]
Collaborations
The center works with research institutes worldwide, including the CENTRA (Italy), Centro Primo Levi New York (US),[7] The Knapp Family Foundation (US), the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies of the University of Minnesota (US), The Leibniz Institute for Jewish History and Culture (Germany) and the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte (Germany).[8]
Analysis of Current Trends in Antisemitism
The center hosts the unit Analysis of Current Trends in Antisemitism (ACTA) to research global political trends in relation to their impact on mass media and public opinion in different countries.[1][9] It has been publishing issues since January 1, 1993, focusing on analyzing the mechanisms and occurrences of modern antisemitism.[9]
