From an administrative point of view, Venus is a component locality of Mangalia, together with other seaside resorts: Saturn (to the south), Cap Aurora, Jupiter, Neptun, and Olimp (to the north). These resorts form a continuous tourist area along the southern Romanian coast.
History
The Venus resort was built between 1969 and 1971 and officially opened to tourism in 1972. It was designed as an elegant holiday destination, with hotels and villas surrounded by large green spaces. Many of the original hotels were named after female first names, which became a distinctive feature of the resort.
After the Romanian Revolution of 1989, during the 1990s, Venus experienced a period of decline caused by lack of investment and difficult privatization processes. After 2010, the resort began to recover due to private investments that renovated hotels and tourist infrastructure, including the transformation of several older buildings into modern four- and five-star hotels.
Geography
Venus is located at an altitude of about 3–20 meters above sea level, between the resorts of Saturn (south) and Cap Aurora (north). The beach has a length of approximately 1.2–3 kilometers, with fine sand and a gentle slope into the sea. Breakwaters divide the beach into several small bays. In the center of the resort lies Lake Venus, while to the west is the Mangalia Stud Farm.
