Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló (born 23 September 1972) is a politician. He was the President of Guinea-Bissau from February 2020 until November 2025.[5] He is a political scientist and military officer. He was prime minister between 18 November 2016 and 16 January 2018.[6]

In February 2022, a failed coup d'état that killed six people tried to remove Embaló from power.[7]

Embaló ran again for a second presidential term in the 2025 election on 23 November. Both he and Fernando Dias da Costa claimed victory the next day while official results were yet to be released.[8] On 26 November, Embaló was arrested in a coup d'état carried out by the army chief of staff.[9]
