Biography
Umaima al-Baghdadi, the daughter of former ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, revealed details and secrets about the life of her father, who was killed on Friday during a US special operation in rural Idlib province, Syria. In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, Umaima said that before moving to Syria, she lived with her family in the Tarmiya region of Iraq and emphasized that she was unaware of her father's position in the organization. She described her life after her father declared the caliphate: "At that time, al-Baghdadi had three wives, and our life was so strict" It was controlled that our neighbors did not know who we were and did not allow us to go out into the garden for fear of the planes flying over the area."[1]
She noted that al-Baghdadi's family life "was restricted by security measures after the declaration of the caliphate," indicating his fear and deep concern about the American marches that hid and harassed the organization's leaders. She recounted that her father rarely left the house and never wore a suicide vest. She added, "I discussed this issue (sabaya) with my father, but it was justified by Islamic law." And she concluded, "Among the Yazidi women I met were Dalal, Reham, Raha, Haifa, and Siban."
Regarding her last meeting with her father, she noted that he was in the al-Shafa region of Syria before moving to Idlib, and noticed that he kept his final location a secret from them. She described her father's life at home as one of isolation and seclusion, as he spent most of his time in his room, surrounded by books and a computer. She explained that al-Baghdadi wrote down the names of his wives on a piece of paper and then wrote down the name of one of them each night to decide who he would sleep with.[2]
