tert-Butyl alcohol

tert-Butyl alcohol is an organic compound. It is also known as tert-butanol. It has the chemical formula (CH3)3COH. It is one of four isomers of butanol. It is the simplest tertiary alcohol.
tert-Butyl alcohol is a very weak acid, so its conjugate base, the tert-butoxide anion, is very strong. tert-Butoxide salts like potassium tert-butoxide are used in organic synthesis as non-nucleophilic bases.[1]
