Swingin' for the Fences is the debut album by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band is an 18-piece big band. It is led by Gordon Goodwin.
Goodwin made all of the music in this album music except for "Two-Part Invention in D Minor". Two-Part Invention in D Minor is by J. S. Bach, but for a big band. Goodwin wrote all of the arrangements in the band and played alto and soprano saxophone. "Sing Sang Sung" is based on "Sing, Sing, Sing". That song was written by Louis Prima and made famous by Benny Goodman's big band.
There are solos by Dan Higgins on saxophone, Andy Martin on trombone, Tom Ranier on piano, and Goodwin on saxophone. Arturo Sandoval, Eric Marienthal, Eddie Daniels, and Brandon Fields were guests on the album.[1][2]
