Serie B is the second highest division of football in Italy. It was founded in 1929.
History
First of creation of Serie B, there are some championship with few teams, but on 1929 was created a round-robin tournament with 18 clubs by Leandro Arpinati, fascist politician, the same year of Serie A. From 1933 to 1935, Serie B returned with two groups (of 13 and after of 16 teams), but the following year it returns with 18 clubs (apart of two editions of 16 and 17 teams). After a pause for the Second World War, Serie B returned with three groups, and from 1948 with 18, 20, 21 or 22 clubs. On 2003–04 edition, in Serie B there were 24 teams, the highest number of history. Until 2018 played 22 clubs, but then come down to 19 and to 20 teams, current number.
Promotion and Relegation
Promotion
At the end of the seasons, three teams are promoted to Serie A. The first two teams are directly qualified.
The third team is selected by play-offs. If the third team is 10 points or more ahead of the 4th team, then the third team is automatically qualified.
Relegation
The three last-placed teams are directly relegated to Serie C, and the 17th team is automatically relegated only if the 16th team is 5 points or more ahead.
If the 16th team is not 5 points or more ahead of the 18th team, there will be play-outs.
Prizes
The winner of Serie B, from 2021, takes the Coppa Nexus, 7075 aluminium alloy cup with the Italian flag.

Serie B Player of the Month is the awards given to the best player for all months.
