Potassium tetrachloroplatinate
Potassium tetrachloroplatinate is a chemical compound. It is the potassium salt of the tetrachloroplatinate anion, with chemical formula K2PtCl4. This compound is mostly made as a ingredient to make the anticancer drug cisplatin.
Preparation
Potassium tetrachloroplatinate can be made by reduction of potassium hexachloroplatinate with a solution of hydrazine in hydrochloric acid,[1] or sulfur dioxide in water:[2]
- 2 K2PtCl6 + N2H4 → 2 K2PtCl4 + N2 + 4 HCl
- K2PtCl6 + SO2 + 2 H2O → K2PtCl4 + H2SO4 + 2 HCl
