Pinto bean

Pinto bean

Pinto beans are a type of common bean. They are the most popular bean by crop production in northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States.[1] The beans are either eaten entirely or mashed then refried.

In South America, pinto beans are called poroto frutilla. It means "strawberry bean".

Pinto beans are a nutrient-dense legume. These beans have essential nutrients. They are good sources for protein, manganese and phosphorus. The beans are high in dietary fiber and folate.[2]

One study showed that pinto beans can lower the levels for both HDL and LDL cholesterol.[3]
