Panchala

The Panchala kingdom was a powerful ancient Indian Janapada (c. 1100–500 BCE) located in the Ganges-Yamuna Doab of present-day Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It was divided into North Panchala (capital: Ahichhatra) and South Panchala (capital: Kampilya) by the Ganges. Famous in the Mahabharata as King Drupada’s realm, it was a close ally of the Kurus.

During the Roman era (approximately 2nd century BCE to 4th century CE), the Panchala kingdom was a, sovereign, prosperous, and independent state in northern India,, thriving as a local power after the collapse of the Mauryan Empire and before its final annexation by the Gupta Empire.
