The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library is a library and archive in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. It is owned by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former President of Nigeria.[1] It was opened in 2017.[2]

History

The idea for the library was first proposed in 1988. It was later developed after Obasanjo became President of Nigeria. In 2002, a foundation was set up to raise money and support the building of the library.[3]The library opened to the public in 2017. It is said to be the first presidential library built on the continent of Africa.[4]

Contents

The library holds about 15 million documents, two million books, and 4,000 objects related to Obasanjo's time in office and to Nigerian and African history.[5] Items kept there include books, journals, newspapers, maps, photographs, and official documents.

Site

The library complex covers 32 hectares of land. The site includes an outdoor theatre, a 1,000-seat hall, a hotel with 153 rooms, restaurants, a small amusement park, and a wildlife park.[6] Part of the land contains large granite rock formations. A small stream on the site was dammed to provide water and electricity.
