Mala Tokmachka is a village in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast of Ukraine. It is controlled by Ukraine. The village was founded in 1783 by people who moved there from the Chernihiv, Poltava, and Kyiv regions. There are very old burial mounds (called kurghans) in the area from the Bronze Age and Sarmatian times. The largest one is named "Chervona Mohyla" (Red Grave)[1].
Before 2022, more than 3,000 people lived in Mala Tokmachka. Local people worked in agriculture, farming, and at a brick factory.
During the long war between 2022 and 2026, the village was badly destroyed. Most of the people left their homes. In 2026, Mala Tokmachka became an internet meme. The village became a symbol of endless, heavy battles where neither side could move forward, representing a difficult "military routine."
