Amruta Chitnis is a strong and independent young banker from a middle-class Marathi family in Mumbai who strongly believes in love, commitment, and marriage. In contrast, Virat Singh Ahuja is a wealthy Punjabi businessman from Delhi who has lost faith in relationships due to his past experience.
The story begins with Amruta preparing to celebrate her parents wedding anniversary. Before the celebration, she must obtain Virat’s signature on important bank documents. She goes to a private yacht where Virat’s family has gathered for his sister Nimrit’s roka ceremony. While rushing after him, Virat unknowingly grabs her hand and pulls her aboard, assuming she belongs to the guests. As the ceremony proceeds, Amruta overhears Virat’s relatives discussing how Nimrit’s mother, Babita, is secretly giving money to Nimrit’s fiancé, Rajeev Shekhawat, as dowry disguised as a ceremonial gift. Disapproving of the practice, Amruta mentions it during a phone call with her brother Harsh, unaware that the Ahuja family overhears her. Offended, Babita confronts her and orders her to leave. The Shekhawat family, calls off the ceremony. Later, as Amruta unknowingly celebrates her parents anniversary on the terrace of a newly booked luxury penthouse in her society owned by Virat. When the Ahuja family arrives they are shocked to find her at their apartment. It's interiors have been designed by Ishika. Babita publicly humiliates Amruta and her family for using the terrace.
Meanwhile, Jayesh reveals his affair with Ishika to his family, declaring that he no longer loves his wife Bhavani and finds her old-fashioned and boring. Ishika arrives and asks Bhavani to leave the house. Shocked and heartbroken Amruta decides to leave the house with her mother and brother. Meanwhile, Babita demands Virat to fire Amruta from her job. Amruta, along with her mother and brother, finds temporary shelter at their neighbour, Jahan Kaur. Desperate due to her family’s financial condition and her brother’s education expenses, Amruta pleads with Virat to give her job back, but he refuses, holding her responsible for the disruption of his sister’s ceremony.
Left with no alternative, Amruta blackmails Virat that she will publicly expose his family’s dowry arrangement with Shekhawats if he does not give her job back. Convinced that she is too a manipulative and materialistic just like other women he distrusts, Virat agrees but only on the condition that she work for him as his personal banker. Determined to make her quit, Virat tries different ways to trouble her, yet she remains steadfast and refuses to resign for the sake of her family.
During Rajeev’s bachelor party, organized by Virat and his best friend Shekhar (Shakey), Rajeev plots revenge against Amruta. He secretly drugs her drink and sends his associates to harass her while she is working late at Virat’s residence but Virat arrives in time and saves her. Rajeev tries various ways to trouble Amruta but fails. During the engagement ceremony, Rajeev creates a scene and falsely accuses her of having questionable character. Amruta stands her ground, and the Shekhawat family calls off the engagement once more. Babita insists that Amruta apologize to Rajeev, and Virat, prioritizing his family’s reputation, instructs her to do so. Reluctantly, and only to save her job, Amruta agrees. Meanwhile, Jayesh sends divorce papers to Bhawani.
Amruta decides to expose Rajeev. She eventually spots Rajeev in a compromising situation with another woman and presents the evidence to Nimrit and her family, but they refuse to believe her. Rajeev once again evades blame by claiming the woman is merely a friend he was helping. At the same time, Bhawani arranges Amruta’s marriage with Gautam.
On the wedding day, Amruta gets proof against Rajeev and plans to expose him. However, Ishika locks her in a room to stop her. Virat eventually finds and frees her, and when she shows him the evidence, he is shocked. Virat and his father Dildaar rush to halt the wedding, but they discover that Nimrit has already eloped with Rajeev. By the time they reach them, the couple has already got married. Nimrit pleads with Virat not to interfere, insisting she truly loves Rajeev. Reluctantly, Virat allows the marriage but sets a condition Rajeev must live in the Ahuja household as a resident son-in-law until he earns their trust.
Virat confronts Babita for permitting Nimrit to elope. Babita explains she and Dildar only wish for a happy, united family. During the conversation she unintensionally, remarks on Virat’s own failed marriage and his vow never to marry again which is overheard by Amruta and she is shocked to know that.
The arrival of Amruta’s grandmother, Dyaneshwari a strict retired school principal from her village introduces a new dynamic. She immediately forms a negative impression of Virat. Amruta and her family hide the truth about Jayesh and Bhawani’s separation from her. Living in the same residential complex, Babita and Bebe openly dislike Amruta’s family and frequently insult them alongside Ishika.
Amruta and Virat gradually grow closer after he helps her find her mother, leading him to slowly develop trust in her. At the same time, Amruta’s engagement is arranged with Gautam. During the Lohri celebrations, Amruta and Virat share several warm moments. Babita once again accuses Amruta, but Virat defends her. He later confides in Amruta about his painful past, revealing that his ex wife left him for money which made him believe that all the womens in this world are gold diggers. Touched by his vulnerability, Amruta offers him emotional support, unaware that Ishika overhears their conversation.
During the Makar Sankranti festivities, Ishika deliberately manipulates events by staging a phone conversation with someone in which she mentions that Virat is divorced, and Dyaneshwari overhears it. When Babita publicly accuses Amruta being close with Virat despite her getting engaged to Gautam and questions her character. Dyaneshwari angrily reveals in front of everyone about Virat’s divorce. Heartbroken and feeling betrayed, Virat blames Amruta for disclosing his secret and confronts her. Despite her attempts to explain the truth, he refuses to listen and accuses her of breaking his trust.
Seeking revenge, a drunked Virat creates a scene at Amruta’s engagement ceremony and reveals that her parents, Bhawani and Jayesh, are divorced and that Jayesh is having an affair with Ishika which causes Amruta’s grandmother Dyaneshwari to suffer a heart attack, and Amruta rushes her to the hospital. Still consumed by anger, Virat continues to humiliate Amruta at every opportunity.
Meanwhile, Rajeev devises a plan to steal money from Virat’s bank account. With the help of his accomplice Tara, he frames Amruta by exploiting her access to Virat’s financial details. When the fraudulent transaction surfaces, Virat discovers fabricated evidence implicating Amruta and has her arrested despite her pleas of innocence. At the same time, Ishika deceives Jahan Kaur into signing documents that transfer ownership of her house, taking advantage of her desperation to arrange bail money for Amruta. Amruta decides to find the real culprit and secretly follows Tara and catches her impersonating to be her at the bank, thereby proving her innocence. Tara is arrested, but when Amruta tells family the truth about Rajeev, he once again manipulates the situation and denies knowing Tara. Soon afterward, officials arrive with an eviction notice for Jahan Kaur, revealing that her house has been sold. Amruta is shocked to see Virat’s name on the documents and, believing he is responsible, moves into his penthouse with her family and Jahan Kaur, declaring they will stay until he returns the property. Virat denies any involvement and demands proof.
Later marks the arrival of Virat’s cousin Abhiraj and his mother Kavita who secretly intend to seize the Ahuja wealth creates further complications. Abhiraj deliberately fuels misunderstandings between Amruta and Virat, leading to jealousy and tension. During Holi, Jayesh and Ishika announce their marriage, while Abhiraj spikes drinks belonging to Amruta and Virat, causing them to grow closer while intoxicated.
Virat and Amruta eventually expose Ishika for illegally acquiring Jahan Kaur’s property. They reconcile and finally forgive one another, with a new start to their friendship and Virat gifts Amruta a new home. However, Abhiraj retaliates by sending goons after them. While hiding in a forest, Virat opens up about his ex wife to Amruta and tells how he went against his whole family only to marry her but she left him for money leaving him heartbroken. Virat cares for Amruta when she suffers with high fewer and photographs of the moment are secretly taken by someone and leaked in the media, creating further misunderstanding. Dyaneshwari accuses Virat of exploiting Amruta, leading to his arrest. To save him, Amruta claims that whatever happened between both of them in forest was consensual.
To identify the real culprit behind all this, Amruta and Virat come up with a plan to stage a fake wedding. Their engagement ceremony proceeds and Amruta and Virat get engaged. As their pre-wedding rituals begin, Amruta grows suspicious of Kavita behind all this but later discovers that the true mastermind is Babita, who leaked the photographs of her and Virat to drive her out of Virat’s life. When confronted, Babita offers Amruta money to leave him, but Amruta refuses and vows to expose her. Babita then fakes an accident and is hospitalized where she falsely accuses Amruta of pushing her and presents fabricated video evidence. Devastated, Virat believes his mother and, in a fit of rage, forcibly marries Amruta, vowing to make her life miserable. Despite Amruta’s attempts to prove her innocence, she lacks evidence, and Virat once again hates her, determined to make her suffer.
Refusing to accept the validity of the forced marriage, Amruta demands a divorce, but Virat refuses. Babita is shocked to see them married and confronts Virat, while Dildar accepts Amruta as his daughter-in-law and welcomes her into the family. Soon afterward, Virat travels to Goa for a business deal insists that Amruta to accompany him as his wife, to which she reluctantly agrees.
In Goa, Amruta meets Priyanka Bajwa Virat's ex wife though Amruta is initially unaware of her identity. Later, near the hotel pool, Priyanka deliberately causes both herself and Amruta to fall into the water. When Virat sees both of them together he rushes to pull Priyanka out, while Amruta manages to save herself and is shocked to learn that Priyanka is Virat’s ex wife. A drunked Virat grows emotionally close to Amruta and says that he hates Priyanka for betraying him. Meanwhile Priyanka, vows to separate Amruta and Virat.
During Babita and Dildar’s wedding anniversary celebration, Priyanka arrives at the Ahuja residence claiming to be Virat’s wife. Virat insists that Amruta is his legally wedded wife and asks Priyanka to leave, but she shows forged documents suggesting their divorce was never finalized. The revelation devastates Amruta. It is later revealed that Babita had secretly summoned Priyanka and conspired with her to drive Amruta out, offering money to her, which Priyanka accepted out of greed.
Virat pleads with Amruta to trust him and support him in exposing Priyanka’s lies, but she refuses, convinced by the apparent evidence. Heartbroken, Virat leaves in distress and meets with an accident. When Amruta learns of it, she decides to return to the Ahuja house for Virat despite her inner turmoil. Priyanka and Babita try various ways to separate Virat and Amruta but each time they fail.
Meanwhile Rajeev begins revealing his true nature to Nimrit, subjecting her to constant abuse. When Nimrit confides in Babita, she urges her to remain silent for the sake of social reputation. Amruta senses something is wrong and later catches Rajeev assaulting Nimrit in a locked room during a family celebration. She confronts and physically restrains him until the family arrives. Shocked by the truth, Virat nearly attacks Rajeev in rage, but Amruta stops him, and Rajeev is arrested. Feeling guilty for failing to protect his sister, Virat apologizes to Amruta for his past mistrust and for forcing her into marriage. With the help of Virat and Amruta's support, Nimrit divorces Rajeev. Virat and Amruta begin developing genuine feelings for each other.
Meanwhile, Babita, Priyanka, and Ishika form a new alliance against Amruta. Concerned for her daughter’s safety, Bhawani initially prevents Amruta from returning to the Ahuja house. During the Dahi Handi festival, Priyanka plants an explosive inside the handi it detonates during the celebration, causing minor injuries to Amruta, though Virat shields her from serious harm. Guilt-ridden over the danger she faces because of him, Virat later takes her on a heartfelt outing and offers her annulment papers, believing he wronged her by marrying her against her will. Amruta refuses to sign, but Priyanka and Ishika trick her into signing unknowingly. Convinced it is best to let her go, Virat distances himself.
Babita secretly arranges Virat’s marriage to Priyanka. She drugs him so he is unaware of the situation, and in his intoxicated state he mistakes Priyanka for Amruta. Just as he is about to apply vermilion to Priyanka’s forehead, Amruta arrives to stop the ceremony; in his dazed condition, Virat instead applies it to Amruta, symbolically remarrying her. Priyanka and Ishika are arrested, and Babita escapes. Though Babita later secures their release. During the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, Amruta obtains video evidence exposing Babita as the mastermind behind the conspiracy, including the staged accident and Priyanka’s wedding to Virat. Devastated, Virat breaks ties with his mother and regrets not trusting Amruta.
The arrival of Amruta’s aunt Vandana introduces further tension, as she resents Virat for forcing the marriage. Meanwhile, Rajeev secures bail on medical grounds with Priyanka’s help, and together they plot to kill Amruta during Navratri by sabotaging a chandelier, but Virat saves her once again. Rajeev then kidnaps Amruta and Nimrit, demanding money and the Ahuja property in exchange. Priyanka manipulates the family into considering his demands, and though Virat rescues Amruta, Nimrit remains captive. On Vijayadashami, Rajeev hides an unconscious Nimrit inside a Ravan effigy set to be burned, but Amruta risks her life to rescue her. Rajeev escapes yet again, while Priyanka succeeds in her plan of fraudulently transferring ownership of the Ahuja property to her name and forcing the family out of their own home.
With the Ahuja family left homeless after losing their property, Jahan Kaur offers them shelter in her house. The arrangement soon leads to frequent clashes as both families struggle to adjust under the same roof. Shubh Kadam, Amruta’s former fiancé enters the story after being invited by Vandana in an attempt to provoke jealousy in Virat. Meanwhile, Amruta receives a new job opportunity, while Virat, having lost his business and wealth begins working as a cab driver to support his wife and their family. Priyanka and Ishika continue plotting against the couple but fail.
Determined to reclaim Virat’s lost fortune and expose Priyanka, Amruta, Virat and Shubh to execute a plan. They stage public arguments and deliberately create the impression that Virat is jealous of Shubh’s closeness to Amruta. Amruta eventually demands a divorce as part of the ruse, and Virat pretends to move in with Priyanka, leading her to believe she has finally succeeded in separating them. However, the separation is revealed to be a strategy. Amruta and Virat confess their love to each other and the two secretly remarry with full rituals, reaffirming their bond by spending a night together. Amruta and Virat proceed with their plan to expose Priyanka’s truth.
During a Christmas celebration at the Ahuja residence, Virat and Amruta execute a risky plan to expose Priyanka. As part of the plan, Virat is supposed to pretend to shoot Amruta with a prop weapon; however, Priyanka secretly replaces it with a real gun and pressures him to fire. Unaware of the switch, Virat shoots Amruta, shocking everyone as she appears to die. In reality, he had secretly secured a blood pack beneath her clothing to fake her death. Believing her to be dead, Priyanka and Ishika take possession of her body and attempt to cremate her while she is still alive, but Virat arrives in time and rescues her. To the rest of the family, however, Amruta is presumed dead.
Seizing the opportunity, Virat and Amruta secretly conspire to frighten Priyanka into confessing her crimes. Disguised as a spirit, Amruta begins haunting the Ahuja house at night, terrifying Priyanka until she finally admits to illegally seizing the family’s property and business. Circumstances eventually force Virat and Amruta to reveal to both families that she is alive. United, they work together to expose Priyanka. Just as they prepare to hand her over to the authorities, Rajeev intervenes and helps her escape.
Eventually, the Ahuja family regains their home and property. Grateful, they thank Amruta, and Babita apologizes and finally accepts her as her daughter-in-law. However, their peace is short-lived. Priyanka returns once more and holds Virat at gunpoint. In the ensuing struggle, the gun accidentally discharges, and Priyanka is fatally shot by Amruta while she is defending herself. With her dying breath, Priyanka curses Amruta, that she will never be able to have a happy married life with Virat. Amruta is devasted by hearing this.
Soon afterward, as the family celebrates welcoming Amruta into their home, Rajeev kidnaps her. Virat rushes to rescue her and confronts Rajeev, who fires a gun aimed at Bhawani. Virat steps in front of the bullet to save her and is struck. During the struggle, he slips near a cliff’s edge. Amruta desperately grasps his hand, trying to pull him up as he asks her to promise that she will care of his family. Despite her efforts, his grip weakens and he falls from the cliff, leaving Amruta watching helplessly. Rajeev is subsequently arrested. Virat is presumed to be dead.
2 years later

She establishes a fashion boutique named Abhirat Legacy in the name of Virat and Abhir which is jointly run with Abhir, Virat’s cousin, who secretly has feelings for her. Meanwhile, Nimrit’s marriage is arranged with Shakey. It is soon revealed that Virat is alive, living under the identity of Ranveer Arora with a woman named Manvi who has saved him from falling off the cliff. Having lost his memory, he believes her claims that Amruta is his business rival and becomes hostile toward her. At Nimrit’s engagement ceremony, he arrives with Manvi to file charges against Amruta, shocking everyone. Though Amruta and the family members are overjoyed to see him alive, Virat refuses to recognize them and introduces Manvi as his girlfriend, leaving Amruta heartbroken. Babita urges Amruta to bring him back, and she vows to bring back his memory. Investigating with Babita, she discovers that Manvi has been secretly drugging him for two years to erase his past. Rajeev once again escapes from prison and kidnaps Amruta, but Virat rescues her. Their relationship deepens, and they finally consummate their marriage.

After this incident Amruta is hospitalized, where it is revealed she is pregnant. The family rejoices, and she eventually gives birth to a daughter, Vrinda. Meanwhile, Manvi pretending to be mentally unstable is admitted in a mental asylum and Abhir is secretly conspiring against the couple along with Manvi, they hire a doctor into falsely claiming Amruta needs a kidney donor. Eventually, the truth is revealed that Amruta is perfectly healthy, and the doctor confesses she was forced to lie. Virat and Amruta expose Abhir and Manvi’s conspiracy. Manvi kidnaps the baby and forces Virat to choose between Amruta’s life and their child’s safety, but he outwits her. When she shoots him, he survives using a hidden blood pack, and Ishika arrives with the police to arrest Manvi, later apologizing to Bhawani and Amruta for her past actions.
