"Jeremy" is a song by Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam is an American rock band. Eddie Vedder wrote the words for the song, and Jeff Ament wrote the music. "Jeremy" is the third single from Pearl Jam's first album, Ten (1991). Vedder wrote the song after reading about a high school student named Jeremy Wade Delle. On January 8, 1991, Delle shot himself with a gun in front of 30 students. This inspired Vedder to make the song.
"Jeremy" was number 5 on the Album and Modern Rock Billboard music charts. The band made a music video for the song in 1992. MTV played it on their TV channel many times. In 1993, it won four MTV Video Music Awards. One of them was the award for Best Video of the Year.[2] In 1995, the band released it as a single again. It went to number 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 music chart.[3]
