Hassan Khomeini[a] (born 23 July 1972) is an Iranian cleric.[1] He has been called "the most [important]" grandchild of Ruhollah Khomeini, who had 15 grandchildren.[2] He has been the Custodian of the Mausoleum of Sayyid Ruhollah Khomeini since 1995. He briefly ran for president of Iran in 2021. He has been seen as a possible choice for Ali Khamenei's replacement as Supreme Leader in the 2026 election.[3][4]
On 9 December 2015, he announced that he would enter politics and run for the Assembly of Experts in the 2016 election.[5][6] His nomination was rejected by the Guardian Council on 10 February 2016.[7]
