Golus nationalism

Golus nationalism (Yiddish: גלות נאַציאָנאַליזם Golus natsionalizm after golus, Hebrew: לאומיות גלות, romanized: Leumiyút gālūṯ), or diaspora nationalism, is a national movement of Jews and Judaism that seeks to further national and cultural life in centers of large Jewish communities throughout the world while simultaneously seeking recognition for a Jewish national identity from world powers.

Golus in Hebrew has been understood to mean both "diaspora" and "exile."

Origins

Diaspora Jewish nationalism is derived from Nathan Birnbaum, an Austrian philosopher of Jewish descent who named Zionism as Zionism.

Though Birnbaum was an early theorist of Zionism and participated in the First Zionist Congress, he splintered from the movement at the time and started developing a theory of Pan-Judaism (alljudentum) which embraced Jewish life in the Diaspora.
