Before playing in the NHL, Comrie played parts of five seasons with the Tri-City Americans of Western Hockey League (WHL).
He was drafted 59th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2013 NHL entry draft.[1] On December 24, 2013, Comrie signed a three-year, $2.77 million entry-level contract to join the Jets.[2] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliates St. John's IceCaps and Manitoba Moose.
On April 5, 2017, the Jets called him up and the next day, Comrie made his NHL debut, stopping 35 of 39 shots in a 5–4 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets.[3] On April 27, 2022, Comrie stopped all 35 shots he faced to earn his first NHL career shutout in a 4–0 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.[4] On September 6, 2018, Comrie signed a one-year, $650,000 contract to stay with the Jets.[5] On September 7, 2019, Comrie signed a two-year, $1.4 million contract to stay with the Jets.[6]
On September 30, 2019, the Jets placed Comrie onto waivers and his contract was picked up by the Arizona Coyotes.[7] He never played a game for the Coyotes and was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Tucson Roadrunners. On November 30, the Coyotes traded Comrie to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Vili Saarijärvi.[8] He played 3 regular season games with the Red Wings before being placed back onto waivers. On December 19, 2019, Comrie's contract was picked back up by the Winnipeg Jets.[9] He was sent down to the AHL to play for the Manitoba Moose. After 16 regular season games with the Moose, the Jets placed him back onto waivers. On January 12, 2021, Comrie's contract was picked up by the New Jersey Devils.[10] He only played one regular season game with the Devils before being placed back onto waivers and being picked up again by the Jets on February 18.[11]
On July 13, 2022, Comrie signed a two-year, $3.6 million contract to join the Buffalo Sabres.[12] Comrie played parts of two seasons with the Sabres and their AHL-affiliate Rochester Americans. On July 1, 2024, Comrie signed a two-year, $1.65 million contract to rejoin the Winnipeg Jets for a fourth time.[13]
