Chinnamasta Bhagawati Temple

The Chinnamasta Bhagawati Temple (Sakhada Bhagawati) is a renowned Hindu Shakti Peeth in Sakhda, Saptari district, Nepal, dedicated to the headless goddess Chinnamasta. Established in the 13th century by Shaktisimhadeva of the Karnata dynasty, it is a significant pilgrimage site near the Indian border, roughly 10 km from Rajbiraj. The shrine features a black stoned statue of the goddess without a head (Chinnamasta), representing self-sacrifice and one of the 10 Mahavidyas in Tantra Shastra. The temple includes idols of Dakshinkali, Mahesh Mardini, Chamunda, and Bharavi, collectively known as the Pancha-bhagini (five sisters). It attracts thousands of devotees from Nepal and India, particularly during the Bada Dashain festival, to seek blessings for strength and protection from evil forces. Situated in Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality, the temple is easily reached by local transport from Rajbiraj.
