Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity

The Cannes IAF is the most prestigeous international advertising festival. It draws thousand of entries in each award categories such as film, print, outdoor, cyber and media. There is a jury for each category and the judging happens during the festival week - usually the third week in June. The juries are composed of creative directors in advertising agencies from around the world headed by a jury president. Jurors reward advertising that they judge is the most creative both in idea and execution. Recent film jury presidents include Bob Isherwood (Saatchi & Saatchi) and Dan Wieden (Wieden + Kennedy). During the festival week, delegates are faced with a dilemna of whether to watch submissions, attend seminars from industry leaders or simply spend time socializing. In 2004 festival owner Roger Hatchuel, sold the IAF to UK publisher and conferencer organizer EMAP for a reported 120 million UKP. Under the leadership of festival CEO Terry Savage, the IAF has continued to evolve categories including radio in 2005, sales promotion in 2006 and is reported to want to include design categories in the near future.
