The Battle of Petrikowka fought between 27 and 30 September 1941, during World War II. Fought between Italian and Soviet forces.[1]
Battle
In late September 1941, during the German plan to encircle Soviet forces near Petrikowka, the Italian Expeditionary Corps under General Giovanni Messe took part in the attack. The Torino Division advanced from the southeast and the Pasubio Division from the northeast.[2] On 28 September, the Torino Division fought through strong Soviet resistance and minefields, breaking the lines near Petrikowka. The next day, both Italian divisions continued their advance, met in Petrikowka, and trapped Soviet troops. The Duca d’Aosta Division crossed the Dnieper River to help clear the pocket. By the end of the battle, the Italians had lost 291 men but captured about 10,000 Soviet soldiers and large amounts of weapons and supplies.[3][4]
