The Baltic Sea campaigns of the Second World War were military engagements between the Axis and Allied countries, primarily the Soviet Union (Allies) and Nazi Germany (Axis). Starting from 1939, when Germany InvadedPoland and ending in 1945, when the war was over in Europe. Two main belligerents were: Kriegsmarine and the Soviet Navy. Finland initially supported the Germans during the Finnish–Soviet Continuation War, but later they lost the war so they changed sides and joined alongside the Allies (Soviets) against the Nazis (see Lapland War).
