Ballistic missile submarine

A ballistic missile submarine is a submarine that is able to deploying submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) with nuclear warheads. These submarines became a major weapon system in the Cold War because of their nuclear deterrence capability. Countries that have these kinds of submarines are the United States, Russia and China. Several other nations operate ballistic missile submarines for strategic deterrence roles. In the United States, about 70% of nuclear warheads are carried by these submarines.[1]
