Annita Demetriou (Greek: Αννίτα Δημητρίου; born 18 October 1985) is a Cypriot politician who has been the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives since June 2021. She has been the President of the Democratic Rally (DISY) since March 2023. This makes her the Leader of Opposition against the government of Nikos Christodoulides.[1][2]

Demetriou is the first woman and youngest person ever to be President of the House of Representatives.[3] Demetriou has also represented her home district of Larnaca in the House of Representatives since 2016.

In 2024, according to several poll numbers, Demetriou was seen as the most popular politician in Cyprus, with approval ratings averaging around 70%. This is the highest approval rating ever achieved by a DISY president.[4][5]

Personal life

Demetriou was born on 18 October 1985 in the village of Troulli, Larnaca District.[6] She graduated with a degree in social and political science from the University of Cyprus in 2007 and a master's in international relations and European studies from the University of Kent.[6][3][7]

Demetriou is an ethnic Greek Cypriot. She has been married to Andreas Kyprianou since 2013.[6][7]
