An election for the mayor of New York City was held on November 4, 2025. Democratic state assemblyman Zohran Mamdani won the election with 50.4% of the vote, beating Republican activist Curtis Sliwa and independent former Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo.[3][4][5] This election had the highest turnout for a New York City mayoral election in decades, mainly because many young people registered to vote.[6][7]
Mamdani is set to replace Democratic incumbent Eric Adams on January 1, 2026. Mamdani will become the first Muslim and first South Asian mayor of New York City, as well as its youngest since 1892.[8]
